  2.   The future ...

  4.   The next release of LhA will be version 2.00. It will feature a host of
  5. new commands, options and will be a considerably more capable program.
  6. Released at the end of October 1992.
  7.  
  8.   Some of the features new to LhA 2.00 are :
  9.  
  10.   - New compression modes (-lh6-, -lh7- and -lh8-) offering substantially
  11.     better and faster compression than -lh5-.
  12.  
  13.   - Faster decompression. The -lh5- and -lh1- decompression routines have
  14.     been speeded up. Especially on 68020/030/040 machines. The entire
  15.     decompression loop now fits in the cache by using special optimization
  16.     techniques. The new compression modes also decompress faster than the
  17.     old -lh1- => -lh5- modes.
  18.  
  19.   - UNIX and MS-DOS versions handling the new compression modes will be
  20.     available.
  21.  
  22.   - Repacking of old archives to the new methods can be done automatically.
  23.  
  24.   - The ability to archive directly onto removable media (floppies for
  25.     example) without using any filesystem. By using this feature you can
  26.     use LhA as a powerful and fast backup program - saving many disks
  27.     through its unrivalled compression performance.
  28.  
  29.   - Disk-Image archiving. Now you can compress entire disks into an
  30.     archive a la DMS, but faster and more efficient.

  32.   - Handles all new filesystems (DOS\2, DOS\3, DOS\4, MSD and DOS\5) in
  33.     OS3.0

  35.   - Pipe support.
  36.  
  37.   - Vastly improved multivolume archive facility.
  38.  
  39.   - Archive locking. A locked archive cannot be added to unless the creator
  40.     unlocks it. Prevents BBS-Ads.
  41.  
  42.   - Authenticity Verification. Warns user if archive has been altered by any
  43.     other than the original creator. Ensures the user the program contains
  44.     no virus and hasn't been hacked.
  45.  
  46.   - User-configurable commands.
  47.  
  48.   - Intuition-driven GUI setup program.
  49.  
  50.   - KS2.x link support.
  51.  
  52.   - Archive comments.
  53.  
  54.   - Extensive logging and catalog features mainly to help maintaining multi-
  55.     volume archives/backups.
  56.  
  57.   - Much faster and memory-efficient file collection. Extremely fast when
  58.     used in conjunction with the new DirCache filesystems.
  59.  
  60.   - Localization. Run LhA in any language you want.
  61.  
  62.   - Workbench Icon/Tooltypes support. (No more LhAX-like extras necessary)

  64.   - Improved SFX capability.
  65.  
  66.   - GUI LhBackup harddisk-backup program.
  67.  
  68.   - GUI LhA. Powerful intuition-driven archiver.

  72.   Special cut-down versions without the fancy features will be available for
  73. those with small memory systems.
